Well, this update brings some good stuff & some not so good (at least in our minds)…
Let’s get right to it (the not so good stuff) – CSA Details…
As unfortunate as is it is, we’re going to have to shift our delivery schedule to the right just a bit. Mother nature this season has dished up a delay in harvesting/quantity… Seems that two primary factors are in play here; frequent rains coming out of January and into February (which slowed some field work/planting) and unusually consistent/pervasive cool temperatures (which have hindered growth/germination – our bigger concern).
So what does that mean?
Well, rather that deliver a crate with less than what we’d want to get, we’re going to hold off two weeks to begin deliveries to y’all. Instead of beginning next week (the week of 25MAR) we’ll begin the week of 08APR. It’s the ‘not so good’ in or minds but we certainly would rather you get both quality and quantity v. a disappointing start – we know fully that the CSA model shares both risk and reward but we like to err on the reward side. 🙂
So what else has changed?
Nothing. We’re still going to deliver for at least 16 weeks during the Spring/Summer season and we’re still going to bring a RedCrate of goodness to you each week (the only real impact is that Mark doesn’t get to take his annual ‘third week of July off’ to get his little bow hunting fix on at the Colorado Bowhunters Jamboree). That will put our last ‘official’ delivery at 27JUL.
Around the farmstead…
Transplanting and direct seeding continues (even though we managed to break the tractor again – this time blowing out the power steering cylinder) which will continue for many, many succession plantings throughout the season so we’ll not belabor that… Even though temps have been cool we still are seeing some good solid growth – and the rapini look unusually awesome!
And, thankfully, the ‘oak leaves are as big as squirrel’s ears’… OK, that’s a reference for y’all to google.
(Spoiler alert! – While we don’t advertise corn for the CSA (‘cause it’s a royal pain to do organically) we do plant it every year so we’ll see what happens.) 😉

We’re looking at the weekend June 8th for our next Harvest Hoe-Down. All of you are invited to come tour the farm, just relax, pick some fresh veggies, cook ‘em up and enjoy along with some grass fed burgers and other fun stuff! There’ll be plenty more details to follow but this is the weekend to stop by! And for all of you actual/closet/aspiring rock stars – bring your instrument of choice and have some fun!

Fair winds and following seas –
Mike, our resident sage, is moving onto pasture (as he puts it)… He’s been our consultant, confidant, back-up worker, and just plain ‘ole friend over the past couple of years and will be very much missed. Not that he’s going far. Just moving from the farm about 20 minutes away to live near and care for a very cute grandson that can use his ‘sageness’ about now. He’ll still be around often but will certainly be missed on a daily basis.
